Why every practice
starts with the breath
Many come to yoga for spectacular postures. They stay for something else: the way the breath changes their state. Here's why.
The breath speaks to the nervous system
A slow, deep breath tells the body it's safe. The heart rate settles, the shoulders drop, the mind clears. It's not magic — it's physiology.
It links movement to presence
When you sync movement with breath, the mind has no time to run off to lists and worries. You simply are, here. That is, in fact, meditation in motion.
You can't control the day. You can control the next breath.
Where to start
You need nothing special. Inhale through the nose for four counts, exhale for six. A few times a day. The rest comes on its own, on the mat.
