Signs It's Time to Change Your Brake Pads

Brakes warn you before they give out, if you know what to watch for. Here are the signs the pads are worn and it's time to change them.

1. A metallic squeal when braking

Many pads have a tab that squeals on purpose once they get thin. It's the clear signal that they need checking soon.

If you press further than usual to stop, either the pads are worn or there's air in the system. In both cases, go get it checked.

Vibration under braking usually points to warped discs. They're changed together with the pads, so the braking is even.
